Introduction

The changing situation pushed the establishments and industries to transformation, adoption of changes in business modalities and looking for survival strategies, among others. Given this to revisit related legal framework, including the Bangladesh Labour Act, 2006, has become essential and crucial. A proper understanding and strategic applications of the same are now crucial and vital. With this scenario on the view, DBI is going to organize the training workshop on the subject matter.

Contents

  • Objective and coverage of the labour laws; Structure and exemption of the Act;
  • Definition of the worker and employee (non-worker), understanding of nature of work;
  • Conditions of employment and service: Appointment, conditions of appointment, probation period and confirmation;
  • Working hour and leave; Determination of wages and payment;
  • When and how deduction and reduction from the wages are possible;
  • Situation and responses of the Labour Act during an epidemic/unprecedented situation, e.g.,
  • COVID-19; Stoppage of work, "general holidays," lay-off, closure of business etc.;
  • Separation of employment: Retrenchment, discharge, dismissal, termination, resignation and retirement;
  • Statutory conditions for retrenchment and termination; Service benefits (compensation) and their payments;
  • Maternity benefit (qualification, calculation and payment);
  • Violation of provisions of the Labour Act, remedies and penalty.

Facilitators

This workshop will be conducted Dr. Uttam Kumar Das, who is a highly qualified and well-regarded lawyer with expertise on labour and employment laws of Bangladesh. Dr. Das is an Advocate in the Supreme Court of Bangladesh and advises multinational corporations and international organizations on labour and service matters.

Fee
