Mr. Mohammad Akbar Hossain is currently working as the Commissioner at the Custom House, ICD, Kamalapur, Dhaka. Before that he was Commissioner at the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Sylhet. Prior this position, he worked at the Customs, Excise and VAT Commissionerate, Chittagong, Bangladesh, strategically the most important Customs and VAT Office of the country. He joined Bangladesh Civil Service (Customs and Excise Cadre) in 2003 as an Assistant Commissioner; being promoted over the years, he served as Deputy Commissioner, Joint Commissioner, and Additional Commissioner in various Customs and VAT Offices at different capacities.
Apart from the Civil Service, Mr. Akbar had worked in a USAID Project as a Customs Specialist. He had also worked in the World Customs Organization (WCO) Headquarters, Brussels in the Compliance and Facilitation Directorate. In addition, he had had the opportunity to work with the National Tax Agency (NTA), Ministry of Finance, Japan whilst studying in Japan as a World Bank Scholar.
Mr. Akbar has considerable experiences and sound knowledge on Customs procedures, Value Added Tax (VAT), Customs Valuation, Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), National Single Window, Coordinated Border Management (CBM), Risk Management (RM), Post Clearance Audit (PCA), Trade Facilitation, Money Laundering, Public Policy, etc.
Mr. Akbar is a certified/expert trainer on VAT, PCA, IPR, and RM. He also conducts classes at the Customs Training Academy, Chittagong, and the Academy certified him as the best trainer for outstanding performance. In addition, he teaches at the Master of Accountancy in Taxation program of the University of Dhaka, as an adjunct lecturer.
