Mr. Md Omar Faruq Khan is a Deputy Commissioner of Taxes. He has twelve years of experience working in the financial sector of Bangladesh. He started his career as a Management Trainee Officer in a commercial bank in 2010. After serving four years, he joined the Bangladesh Civil Service as a BCS (Taxation) cadre through the 33rd BCS in 2014. Since then, he has performed in different NBR positions in various capacities. He has worked as the head of multiple personal and corporate taxes circles. He has also served at the National Board of Revenue (NBR) as a Second Secretary of the Taxes Legal and Enforcement wing. He was a Coordinator of the National Budget 2018-2019 team. Lastly, he was appointed as a Deputy Director of the Central Intelligence Cell (CIC) of NBR.
Mr. Khan graduated from the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) in Chemical Engineering in 2010. After that, he passed the MBA with a Finance major from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA), University of Dhaka, in 2015. Lastly, he pursued a Master in Professional Accounting from the Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, in 2020 with the prestigious Australia Awards Scholarship. He was honored, thereby receiving the Monash Excellence Award 2021 for exceptional academic performance.
Besides his industry experiences, he is involved with several academic and research works. During his stay in Australia, he worked as a Mentor at the Monash Business School and trained the Monash Business faculty undergraduate students. In Bangladesh, he occasionally conducts tax and financial issues training at different training institutes, chambers and organizations. He has some international conference papers. He is recently conducting research on tax compliance, tax expenditure, transfer pricing, and corporate social responsibility. He is also an associate member of the CPA, Australia.
